Schnauzer Space : About : Princess Tribute
At 2:00 PM, she began to pant excessively. Her conditioned worsened over the next 12 hours to congestive heart failure. She died in the early morning hours while in intensive care. We don't know much about Princess' earlier days, as we rescued here from a nearby shelter. All we know is that she was abandoned the day after Christmas 1994 for her inability to control her urine. (Her bladder was full of stones due to severe neglect.) Fortunately for Princess, she landed at a county shelter in Northern New Jersey that had a local news crew there to cover the post-holiday overcrowding. Princess' shaggy appearance and delightfully cute demeanor made her the darling of the TV crew, who featured her more than any other dog at the shelter. The piece ran on the 5:00 news and I happened to catch it just as I was waking up. (I was still in college at the time and was still exhausted from finals.) That was Wednesday. The next day we arrived at the shelter looking for a puppy, but all the puppies were gone. Disappointed, my mother & I walked around until we saw her. Dejected and sad, Princess still managed to wag "hello" and lick my hand. From that moment on, we were hers. We had to come back the next day to get her, as the shelter was closing down for the day. We showed up the next day bright & early to claim her. Friday, we had our dog. But all was not well. She frequently urinated and there was blood in her urine. We rushed her to our vet, who recommended immediate surgery. Saturday morning, Princess was back at the vet to undergo surgery the following day. Late the following week, Princess was back in her new home. We enjoyed having Princess in our lives and Princess reveled in the limelight of attention. Everyone in the neighborhood loved Princess, who was always more than happy to greet every person and dog she met.
Schnauzer Space consistently brings in visitors from all around the world. Around 90 countries at last count. Little more than a year after being abandoned, Princess was well on her way to becoming a global celebrity. Who'd have thought that a web site about Prank Phone Calls and Miniature Schnauzers could be so big? That's the power of the internet. That's the power of a dog who's been given a second chance at life.

"Why are you holding the camera? You should be petting me!"This video, more than any other we have, captures the Princess' true personality. Alert, inquisitive, and sociable to the extreme.
