Speaking of NUI, the KinectSDK DC Launch with Joshua Blake event was an amazing success.

Based on popular demand, we streamed the event live and recorded it for posterity.

You can watch the UStream recording here (which has an odd pitch) or the corrected YouTube version.

Sadly, our fancy title graphics did not make the recording.

The XNA Framework and Windows Phone 7 - Franklin Balaguer

    Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 7:00 PM

    Abstract:

XNA Game Studio and the XNA Framework are designed for cross-platform gaming scenarios with support for Windows Phone 7, Xbox 360, and Windows-based PCs. This allows you to target more platforms from the same code base. XNA Game Studio includes the XNA Framework, a set of managed libraries designed for game development based on the Microsoft .NET Framework.
In this workshop, I will go over some free resources available to help you create your own Windows Phone 7 game and then sell it on the WindowsPhone MarketPlace. I will also touch on the basics of XNA (drawing a sprite, handling of input touch, playing sounds, and game state management). Lastly, I will discuss the certification process for getting your game approved and placed on the MarketPlace.

Dr ScriptloveDr ScriptLove or  How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love JavaScript

    Thursday, February 22, 2012 at 7:00 PM

Where: 2300 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA [map]

JavaScript: the name alone instills loathing and dread into the hearts of developers.  The language, which is neither Java nor script, used to be safely confined to the browser, as a tool of last resort.

Then something happened: like a horror film, JavaScript started appear everywhere -- even on the server!

Despite numerous attempts to crush the language, it has grown and thrived. Love or hate it, JavaScript is a fact of life for developers in the 2010s.

This presentation is about one die-hard Silverlight/C# developer's savage journey into the heart of JavaScript and how he came to realize: it's not that bad after all.

    Speaker Bio:

FrankFrank La Vigne has been hooked on software development since he was 12 when he got his own Commodore 64 computer. Frank now works for Microsoft as a Public Sector Developer Evangelist. He blogs regularly at www.FranksWorld.com.

A Silverlight/XAML guy through and through, he's slowly come to realize that HTML5 and JavaScript aren't all that bad.
