Celebrating 19 Years of Blogging

Nineteen years ago today, I created my first blog post on the technology blog here.

Strictly speaking, I had a blog on the site earlier, but that was mostly focused on my travels across Europe when I lived in Germany.

In 2004, I decided to manage my own server and set up a Windows Server 2000 box, installed the .TEXT blogging engine on it, and I have been blogging ever since with the number of posts per month ranging from one to 227.

Chart of number of posts over the last 229 months.

In 2017, ClearDB, in an act of unfettered incompetence, deleted all of my data. 13 years of blog posts gone in an instant. So much for relying on one vendor.

Ever since then, I have been working on rebuilding the content store and now I am proud to say that I have in the last 6 years have created more content than I had in the previous 13.

I took away some important life lessons from that.

I’m not sure what the future of the blog holds, but I will continue to keep the site active.
